Forget the shine and embrace the stunning new-season lip trend - matte lipstick. Worried about dry lips? Don't stress; we've Tried & Tested our fave brands so can you can wear a no-shine lip without your kissers looking dry and lacklustre. And we bring you a heap of choices with fiery retro reds, barely-there nudes, and playful pinks.
rule #1
No matter what matte lippie you pick up, it's always going to be a little drying on your lips. Solution? Slather on a super-moisturising balm an hour before applying you lippie to soften up, and then use a non-greasy version under your lipstick. Easy.
rule #2
Don't you dare apply that lipstick without a lipliner! Colour bleeding into fine line is not a good look. But skip the step where you fill in your entire lips with liner. matte lipsticks have enough staying power.
rule #3
If you're choosing a darker colour, reapply often. There's nothing worse than a dark outline with nothing in the middle!
want to know which product is right for you?
Pick the M.A.C, Napoleon Perdis and Gorgeous Cosmetics shades if you're after a true flat matte.
The Ere Perez, Guerlain and Maybelline NY lippies pictured are more of a creamier matte, and the Synergie Minerals and Australis Cosmetics colours are sheer matte.
We're thinking one of each is about right, so you'll be spoilt for choice.
No matter what you use, it'll always dry out your lips. The reason you don't notice it so much with lip gloss is because the staying power isn't as great. The bottom line? Lip balm. And it's true that lippies are high maintenance, but nothing else gives the same dramatic look.

Mac is the best for staying power. Plus they have every colour under the sun.

yeah, I dont do lipstick. I always use colored gloss or lip stains. lipstick always rubs off and looks "washed out"! at least when lip gloss rubs off it doesn't look so strange.
