And because testing one lot of mascaras wasn't enough, I set about trying a whole new second set too (my eyes!). These ones are all over $30 (oooh luxe-y) and they all have a different set of shiny tricks to show off.

This addition to the Benefit Bad Gal family is super-lengthening and thickening, with the long-handled brush easy to manoeuvre. And the waterproof formula means it ain't gonna run.

Ôscillation Mascara in Black Motion Lancôme RRP $65
A rubber-bristled wand, this one comes with a difference - it vibrates! The opalescent black formula lengthens and adds drama, and once you get used to the vibrating, it's quite pleasant.

Maestro Obsidian Black Mascara Giorgio Armani RRP $50
Lovely and lengthening in a stunning glossy black tube, this mascara works wonders once you get used to the long, thick brush. Wiggle it on your lashes a bit for an eye-opening effect.

Ultimate Expression Mascara in Black Shu Uemura RRP $44
The slightly angled brush may look scary, clumpy and just plain HUGE at first glance, but it really creates the most va va voom lashes. Perfect if you're looking for that false-lash effect.

 |
Wonder Volume Mascara in Wonder Black Clarins Cosmetics RRP $42
Another va va voom mascara, this one comes with a slightly smaller, shorter brush. Quite a dry formula compared to the others, it's fabulous for those prone to wobbly mistakes.

Formula Five Mascara in Espresso Gorgeous Cosmetics RRP $40
Really, really pretty, super-thickening warm brown colour. A great way to get big lashes without the heavy colour. The long, tapered brush makes it easy to get into tight corners.

 |
Too Faced Lash Injection Mascara Kit Cosmetics RRP $38.95
Again, quite a va va voom mascara (love!) but this one's for the experts. Work quickly and evenly, or the thick (and seriouly luscious) formula will make lashes stick together.
