Bright blue eyeshadow is completely hot this season, but we hear you when you say it does have a certain Smurf-ishness about it... But if you use the right products and team it with a good bronzer and nude lip, it can actually be a fantastic party look. Jut ask Gossip Girl's Jessica Szohr.

How to get Jess' bright blue-eyed look:

First up, start with a subtle wash of golden pearl eye shadow, blending it over the entire lid, right up to the browbone. Next, begin adding colour in with a loose eye shadow in a sea blue shade. Using a medium eye shadow brush, apply the colour over the lower lid, blending up to the crease. Take the same colour around to line below the lower lashline to make your eyes really pop. Darken and define the 'look at me!' vibe by lining the upper and inner lower lashlines with a deep royal blue liner pencil to finish.

Voilà! An easy way to use bright and cheery shadow, sans the Smurf-y vibe.
L'Oréal Paris Loose Mineral Eye Shadows, and Bourjois Eye Liner Pencil.
 Jessica Szohr.

Christine, I'd suggest going to the makeup counter at Myer or DJ's. Most makeup brands there will do a free makeup trial (e.g. MAC, Estee Lauder) for you will and show you how to do your eyes. They will definitely try to sell you their products, but you should only buy something if you like what they've done. If you're not sure - walk around for a bit to "wear" the look - then decide.

No matter how hard I try to do my eyes they just never work out. I am in my 50's and have that heavy lid which makes it near impossible to dress my eyes without looking like I have gone 5 rounds with Muhammed Ali! I wish there was somewhere that I could go to get proper tuition. Any suggestions??
