birthday suit

Dark was oh-so-cool this winter, but ladies, it's time to see the light. We've Tried and Tested all the prettiest, flirtiest and most definitely non-high maintenance summer nude nail polishes you could ever wish for. And because no-one likes chipped polish (we believe the term is skanky nails), we've of course tested a load of top coats too. Two stories in one - lucky you!

Apricot nail polishes from Essie, Sally Hansen and Revitanail.

A lovely opalescent nude apricot shade that shows up quite creamy after a few coats. After some shimmer? This is the shade for you. Very visible, even after just one coat. Very subtle colour. Perfect for an apricot-toned French manicure or a slick of shine.

Nude nail polishes from Manicare, OPI and Essie.

Very low-maintenace - this crystal-clear shade certainly won't show any heavy-handed mistakes! Wonderful goes-with-everything grey tone - and the wide brush tip makes application fast. A shade fit for a ballerina. This pretty nude-pink has the barest hint of silver sparkle.
Pink nail polishes from CND and Revitanail.
Like liquid vinyl for your nails. High-shine with a defined peach tint after a couple of coats. Very pretty and slightly milkier than it's CND peach counterparts. A classic French mani pink. Another hi-shine, no-fuss, barely-there colour. Glossy, easy to use and chic.

Baby pink nail polishes from OPI, Rimmel London and Sally Hansen..

A cult colour from OPI, Bubble Bath shows up as a gorgeous light pink after a couple of coats. Girly and super-wearable, not to mention long-lasting - another shade with a hint of shimmer. One of my faves. A beautiful milky/creamy pink tone with shine; lasted for days.

This shiny top coat is great if your nails are a little weak. Treats and tops in one! Super shiny, lone-wearing, and it's a base coat too! What more could you want? A great cheapie pharmacy option if you're after shiny nails for under $12.

Quick-dry Top Coats from Essie, Cutex and CND.

A dream top coat. Apply to fresh polish and you're Good to Go! Won't last as long as the others, but for $6.95 you can afford to use it often! All the benefits of both a high-shine and fast-drying top coat in one.
